Falkirk is a town situated in the centre of Scotland, not far from cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow. The population in Falkirk is 32 379. The tourist information centre in Falkirk is situated on Glebe Street, which is not far from Falkirk’s Grahamston Railway Station. Falkirk is an enjoyable town for many reasons. The main attraction in Falkirk is in the west end and is called the Falkirk Wheel. Falkirk is home to some lovely parks and gardens, which is why I delight in visiting Falkirk. My favourite parks in Falkirk are:
Callendar Park – This gorgeous place is over 170 acres. It is well known for the many daffodils in the spring time. Throughout most of the year Callendar Park is blooming with flowers. Callendar Park has so much to do for all the family; there are plenty of activities to choose from. These include, a play area which has a bouncy castle, a huge slide, a golf course, crazy golf, a lake which can be used for boating, and electric cars. As well as all of these activities, there is also a huge area of grass for picnics. This park is a nice place to walk. During the summer, there are a variety of events held in the park, as well as concerts. From the centre of Falkirk, it only takes 5 minutes to get to Callendar Park. In the park there is also a kiosk which sells a variety of snacks.
Dollar Park – This is a lovely place to delight in a stroll, alone or with a pet. Dollar Park is peaceful and has gorgeous displays of shrubs. This park is not far from the Falkirk town centre, it’s only five minutes away. Dollar Park is open throughout the whole year and has a kid’s play area which has as bouncy castle.
Muiravonside Country Park- This Country Park is quite huge, and is 170 acres. Muiravonside has so much to do, especially for the children. There is horse riding, a play area and plenty of area for long walks. In the park there is also lots of wildlife, flowers and trees to see. The park is open throughout the year. Also in the park, you will find a Ranger Service, in which there are, people to guide you around the park.
Bantaskine Estate – This park is fantastic for both long walks and small strolls. It is very peaceful and enjoyable. Bantaskine Estate is a really pleasant park. You can walk along the Union Canal banks or stroll through the woodlands. In 1746 the battle of Falkirk took place in the area of Bantaskine Estate. This battle was one by the Jacobites.
These very nice parks in Falkirk are fantastic for a day out; I highly recommend each of them. Public transport around each park is quite excellent. I like visiting Falkirk, just to see the parks and to have a memorable day with my family. I find that Falkirk is very unique and each park has something special. There’s never time to get bored when visiting Falkirk.
The City of Sunderland has a population of just under 300,000 and is the largest city between Edinburgh and Leeds. It is situated on the north east coast of England, with access to some of the most gorgeous countryside in England.
Despite its urban character, Sunderland is home to a complex mosaic of habitats including woodlands, meadows and wetlands all of which support a range of species such as water vole, badger, brown hare and fantastic crested newt.
Its prime location by the sea. The vast areas of natural beauty. A excellent balance between brilliant public services. Exciting culture. An industry that is forever moving forward. It really is a city that is making a better future for all.
It has a strong Christian and industrial heritage. Settlements based on the backsides of the safe harbour, gradually gathered themselves around the Saxon monastery at Wearmouth. Built by Benedict Biscop in AD 674.
Sunderlands name probably derived from the land divided by the river which was granted to Benedict Biscop in AD 686.
The Port of Sunderland has a heritage going back over eight hundred years, with the earliest evidence of maritime commerce being a charter granted in 1154. Industry continued to grow along the river, with docks being present since at least 1382. the mid seventeenth century, following the English Civil War, the proximity of Sunderland to the Durham coalfield, stimulated the development of its export trade. An increase in port facilities was needed and more ships needed to be built. This in turn led to the growth of associated trades, and commerce grew.
Attractions include the Penshaw Monument, the Lighthouse, the Hylton Castle, the Wildfowl Park and the near by beaches.
The National Glass Centre opened in 1998, reflecting Sunderlands distinguished history of glassmaking.
The Winter Gardens and Museum was the first municipally funded museum in the country outside London. It houses a comprehensive collection of the locally produced pottery.
The new City Library Arts Centre, houses the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art. The City of Sunderland has been commended several times on its commitment to preserving its natural faculties.
Each year on the last weekend in July, the city hosts the International Air Show. It takes place primarily along the sea front and is attended by over one million people annually. It is the largest free air show in Europe.
The Empire opened in 1907. It is the largest theatre in the North East, reopened in December 2004 following a major redevelopment allowing it to stage West End shows such as My Honest Lady of which have been performed at the Empire. The Empire is large enough to accommodate such shows.
You will find Scotland is in the north of the United Kingdom and is thirty one thousand square miles in area. There are three major cities in Scotland Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow and a number of populated towns. There are hundreds of islands categorized as the Hebrides Orkney and Shetland islands. The population on these islands are relatively low.
The United Kingdom is one of four constituent nations which are naming Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. The official language is English. But in the highlands Gaelic maybe spoken and in the low lands Scot.
The national flower is the thistle although the heather which covers significant moorland areas is also closely associated with the country. Scotland is traditionally known for its perfectly scenery but also terrible weather. The west coast consists of locs, locs are known as lakes in Scotland. The myth of the Loch Ness Monster can be found here.
A new Scottish Parliament was elected in 1999 following devolution of powers from the United Kingdom Parliament in London. This is the first time Scotland has had its own parliament in 300 years. The Scottish Parliament which sits in Edinburgh is responsible for most aspects of Scottish life.
In Scotland its own legal system education system Scottish Law and banking system. Edinburgh is the second financial centre of the UK and one of the major financial centres of the world.
Skiing in Scotland is perfect for beginners and more experienced visitors keen to brush up their skills. A small ski break in Scotland is a really excellent way to try out the sport before committing to a high cost ski holiday elsewhere in the world. The weather and the snow conditions at Scotlands five resorts have never compared favourably with the continent. A spate of mild winters has even threatened to bankrupt the industry while periods of heavy snowfalls can be accompanied by high speed winds and poor visibility. Every regular Scottish skier will have their own horror tales. For example the rocks, the slush, the ice, the wind. But there will also be at least one tale of a heavenly days skiing under blue skies, with barely a soul on the slopes. Another advantage is that all the resorts are within simple reach of the capital. Tips to ski in Scotland include checking the daily weather before you go. Hire the equipment it may get broken due to the rocks. Take your own food, you dont want to be tripping back into town during the day.
